A Home Cleanout in an Endemic

In the Sarasota area, we have been living with Covid-19 for over two years now, and it has now moved to the endemic phase. That does not mean you or one of your family members will not contract covid-19. If your family does get it, you may not feel comfortable in your home, and you may feel the house is infected, so to speak. So how do you perform a home cleanout in an endemic? Here are some things you can do to disinfect and make your home cleaner in general.

Give Your House’s “Immune System” a Leg Up

Living in Sarasota means warm weather year-round; it also means high humidity. The combination of heat and humidity is the perfect environment for mold and mildew to grow. The two substances can negatively impact your raspatory system, especially if you have asthma. Since Covid-19 is a respiratory disease breathing in spores from mold and mildew can make the symptoms much more severe. So, where do you start to rid your home of mold and mildew? First, you need a roll-off dumpster, a twenty-yard dumpster will be sufficient in most cases, but for bigger projects, you may need a thirty-yard dumpster.

Your house is filled with old things that can be a paradise for mold and mildew. Old furniture like sofas and chairs in a dark, damp room can become a significant source of mold and mildew. Likewise, old throw pillows make excellent places for mold to grow. One of the most significant and most dangerous sources of mold and mildew is a leaky roof. If you see water stains on your ceiling, the water that caused it can also cause mold and mildew to grow in your attic and walls, which is as dangerous as Covid-19 itself, if not more. If you do see leaks on your ceiling, having a roll-off dumpster is a must so that shingles from a repair or roof replacement can be placed inside of it.

Disinfect Your House

Eliminating viruses from surfaces in your home will make it much safer. You will need to do a much deeper cleaning than you are used to after someone in your family has had Covid-19. Using bleach is the best way to eliminate viruses and bacteria. Be sure that the room you use bleach in has sufficient ventilation; opening windows and doors may be wise. Use bleach on kitchen counters, bathroom counters, showers, and bathtubs, in sinks, and on toilets. Let the bleach sit for five minutes before removing it. Be sure that you use strong garbage bags to seal bleach-soaked sponges and paper towels and dispose of them in your roll-off dumpster. Next, use a strong household cleaner such as Lysol or non-bleach Clorox to clean everywhere people touch, such as doorknobs, refrigerator handles, oven handles, remote controls, phones, and other places where someone might place their hands. Like with bleach, take cleaner soaked sponges and paper towels and seal them in a strong garbage bag and dispose of them in your dumpster.

Where Does the Waste From an Endemic Cleanout Go?

The first step in the process is Dumpstermaxx delivering a dumpster directly to your driveway. Once you have completed your endemic cleanout, we will retrieve it. We will pick up the roll-off dumpster in Sarasota and transport it along with the waste from your endemic cleanout to Central County Solid Waste Disposal Complex (Landfill) at Knights Trail Road in Nokomis. When the waste is received, it is sorted for materials to be placed in the landfill and recycled. The bleach and household cleaners you used in your cleanout will be more than adequate to kill any traces of Covid-19 before it is buried in the landfill, where it will no longer be a threat to you or your family.

If you are going to perform an endemic cleanout, call us right away or fill out our simple contact form. We will reach out to discuss what size dumpster you need to dispose of the waste from the cleanout properly.
